For patients who have low vision caused by macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, Stargardt, Best Disease, or other low vision conditions, IrisVision can help.

What is IrisVision?

IrisVision is a wireless virtual reality headset device that uses cellular or WiFi connectivity, this device utilizes a smartphone camera to transmit images.

The camera captures live images and beams that image back to a user’s eyes in an attempt to best use the remaining vision.

How does IrisVision help with low vision?

IrisVision device enables people with low vision to resume their day-to-day activities. IrisVision can also read text aloud.

IrisVision can be used for a variety of stationary tasks, such as:

  • Cooking and reading recipes
  • Enjoying hobbies, crosswords and crafts
  • Using computer or phone
  • Gardening and outdoor activities
  • Reading a book, or newspaper.
  • Watching sport
  • Seeing people clearly
  • Watching TV and movies
  • Writing

However, this device is not recommended for use whilst walking or driving, this is because of reduced peripheral vision and depth perception.

How does IrisVision work?

IrisVision is suitable for people of almost any age and eye condition, depending on a patient’s visual acuity and the severity of the eye condition.

IrisVision offers many features, including:

  • Contrast Settings

Patients with low vision often experience loss of contrast. IrisVision can adjust the contrast of the scene, so that there is no discomfort when transitioning from indoors to the bright outdoors.

  • Effective Use Outdoors

There is a shield around the camera that protects the device and a patient’s eyes from reflection and glare, allowing them to see clearly outdoors without being affected by ambient light.

  • Reading Mode (B&W)

It provides a black and white (B&W) reading mode, which enhances the text contrast, making it more comfortable to read with low vision. For those who are sensitive to light, there is an inverted reading mode, so that users can read white text on a black background.

  • Wide Field Of View

It has a 70-degree field of view, which is wider than other low vision devices, giving a patient sharp and crisp vision.

  • Bubble Zoom

IrisBubble™ enables a user to zoom in on an object or area, allowing them to see clearly without disturbing the overall scene.
