Dr. Lam is passionate about treating vision problems that interfere with children’s ability to read, learn, and pay attention. Some common conditions that she treats are convergence insufficiency, reading difficulties including tracking problems, double vision, lazy eye (amblyopia), and crossed/wandering eyes (strabismus). She also treats vision problems that result from a traumatic head injury, surgery, or concussion. Dr. Lam provides non-surgical treatment to these conditions through Vision Therapy, a custom program of exercises to strengthen the eyes and brain to eliminate vision problems. She completed her Pediatrics and Vision Therapy residency at the Southern California College of Optometry, at Marshall B. Ketchum University. She then pursued her fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.

When I graduated from UC San Diego, I knew that I wanted to work in the healthcare field because I wanted a profession that was about serving other people. Optometry was the right fit because I get to help people love life through the way they see. I achieved my doctorate degree from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University where I got experience working in all types of settings including an Indian reservation (lived in the middle of the desert for 3 months!), low income schools, low vision clinics, and a surgery center. I completed a residency in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy at SCCO because I wanted to become an expert at treating children and helping them to overcome vision related learning problems that were causing them to struggle in school.

Dr. Mai is one of only two optometrists in Orange County with a Fellowship of the Scleral Lens Society. Dr. Mai focuses primarily on specialty contact lenses. In particular, he works with patients suffering from corneal diseases such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, and damaged corneas from refractive surgery or corneal transplants. Because he is highly nearsighted himself, he has a passion for myopia management with orthokeratology and other methods to slow or stop the progression of myopia in children.

I went to UCLA and quickly learned that optometry was the right fit for me. I got my doctorate and graduated summa cum laude at the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University and it was an amazing experience. I worked in all different types of clinic settings and treated a variety of eye diseases you’d never wish on your worst enemy. I trained under eye surgeons that repaired retinal detachments on NBA players and even did a vision therapy rotation with the San Diego Padres official eye doctor. After graduating, I spent my time working in clinics dedicated to treating keratoconus, vision therapy, corneal reshaping or orthokeratology. Life got even better because now I work with my best buddy from optometry school, Dr. Lam!

Dr. Honma practices full-scope eye care including comprehensive eye exams, contact lens exams, and medical eye exams. Specializing in Ocular Disease and Myopia Management, she is especially passionate about ocular disease and how systemic conditions can affect the eyes. Dr. Honma also enjoys myopia management and vision therapy because of the lasting positive effects they can have on a child’s life and development.

Since I began wearing glasses when I was five years old, I have always been interested in eye care. After receiving my undergraduate degree in Biology from UCLA, I actually worked at Insight Vision Center as an optometric assistant prior to starting optometry school! I graduated valedictorian with summa cum laude honors from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. Through my clinical externships at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center and Lawton Indian Hospital in Oklahoma, I was exposed to various ocular diseases affecting all different parts of the eye. I also completed a rotation at the San Diego Center for Vision Care, where I gained additional vision therapy experience in areas such as learning-related vision problems, sports vision training, and brain injury recovery. I’m so excited and thankful to be a part of the Insight Vision Center team again!
