My wife experiences severe dizziness triggered by rapid eye movement to the point she loses control of her limbs and speech. We believe this situation is a result of a virus, perhaps Covid, or due perhaps to a combination of Covid and the vaccine. She has seen numerous neurologists at MUSC in Charleston, and in Greenville, SC, who have prescribed exercises and PT for her vestibular system, which is causing part of her problems. We were referred by her physical therapist to Dr. Rose Hopkins, a neuro-optometrist. The Hopkins Eye Clinic in Greenville is very clean, and extremely well equipped with modern, sophisticated instruments for assessing severe and unusual vision problems of their patients. Patients are given many vision tests to assess the extent of their problems. These evaluations and tests go far above what one experiences in a general optometry exam, and took several hours over two sessions to complete, in my wife’s case. Dr. Hopkins has been able to identify the area of the eye that are triggering my wife’s episodes of ocular gyro crisis. She has determined that the left upper temporal retina is the culprit. The retina ties into the optic nerve which in turn ties into the hypothalamus, sending autonomic signals, such as one’s fight-or-flight reactions. Rapid movements in my wife’s peripheral vision, rapidly looking upward, and specific colors will trigger my wife’s episodes. Dr. Hopkins has used syntonic filters in her treatments and evaluations and has found that green or blue lights do not cause problems, but that yellow light reflected into my wife’s right eye will immediately trigger severe episodes. Dr. Hopkins has also found that blue light filters have a pronounced calming and desensitizing effect, which works almost immediately. Dr. Hopkins has prescribed specific visual exercises for my wife using various syntonic light filters and lights that my wife does five days a week, at home. My wife has only been doing these exercises now for three weeks, but is already showing significant improvement. Different filters are used to vary specific light spectra impinging on my wife’s retina. It is hoped that these treatments will “rewire” my wife’s eye/brain connections. Dr. Hopkins has also recommended toxic cleansing. My wife and I both have been drinking freshly squeezed celery juice three times per week to help remove bodily toxins. Celery juice can reduce bodily inflammation and may be chelating heavy metal toxins in the body. I was just about to schedule another steroid shot for the arthritis in my right shoulder, but after a week of drinking fresh celery juice, my shoulder pain is totally gone! We continue to see Dr. Hopkins as well as my wife’s PT, and anticipate continued improvement. John Y. Daniels, Gaffney, SC.

I was referred to Hopkins Eye Center by several of my doctors. I was involved in a bad car accident and had a concussion that has caused some eye issues and vision issues with me. I called and scheduled an appointment for an evaluation. My first contact was with Robin, who was excellent, very compassionate, and very caring. I set the appointment up for the evaluation. I'm going in for the evaluation. I was very impressed with the level and intensity of the testing they did even before I met with Dr. Mears. I'm meeting Dr. Mears she is very competent and extremely thorough. She spent quite a bit of time with me, and it was so respectful and going over everything she was doing and explaining it to me. After all the testing has been done and the evaluation, she has been very kind, helping me get the additional help that I need in treating and getting the issues resolved. I would highly recommend her and Hopkins Eye Center to anybody who is considering it. Again, I'm very grateful to the staff and to Dr. Mears. Thank you

I don't usually write a review about places, but I was so impressed with the care and service I received at Hopkins Eye Care, that I am taking the time to write a review. I found all the people working there to be extremely competent and caring. Dr. Hopkins is what a doctor should be, there to teach, evaluate and offer great products.

Hopkins Eye Vision Therapy has been one of the most positive medical experiences our family has had. My 9 year old daughter went through the program. Dr. Mears is smart and confident in her examination and diagnosis. Robyn was clear and accommodating when explaining financials and scheduling. Ms. Carolyn, her therapist, is kind and knowledgeable. She was my daughter's favorite- she wanted to go every week. My daughter's reading, writing, and ability to sit still (who knew that was vision related!?) have all improved drastically. We are pleased as can be with our time and money invested in our daughter through the care of the Hopkins Team.
