John L. Ellis II, O.D., is an expert optometrist at University Vision Centre in El Paso, TX. Born in Milwaukee, Dr. Ellis has spent most of his life in El Paso. He attended the University of Texas El Paso where he earned a B.B.A. in Management. He followed that with an M.B.A. at Oklahoma City University.
While serving as a Field Artillery officer in the Army, Dr. Ellis’ optometrist encouraged him to pursue optometry, which led to him attending the University of Houston College of Optometry. Since 2003, he has provided trustworthy, comprehensive eye care and a personalized patient experience at University Vision Centre, and offers appointments in either English or Spanish.

Dr. Ellis is a proud husband, father, and grandfather who has thoroughly enjoyed making El Paso his home over the past twenty-plus years. When he’s not seeing patients or staying involved in the community, Dr. Ellis enjoys hobbies such as home improvement, woodworking, and of course spending time with his wife and family cat.

Chris Koplos, O.D., is a multifaceted optometrist and University Vision Centre’s only low vision and vision rehabilitation specialist. She earned her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry.

An East Texas native, Dr. Koplos quickly became an excellent caregiver and low vision specialist at University Vision Centre. She is an expert at identifying patients’ needs and working with them for vision plans that maximize their quality of life, especially patients with extremely low vision or other forms of severe vision loss.

Ammon Garner, O.D., is a dedicated optometrist at University Vision Centre in El Paso, TX. Originally hailing from Idaho, Dr. Garner earned his bachelor’s degree in health care administration from Idaho State University and his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Since then, he’s worked at several optometry and ophthalmology practices before joining our team.

Although Dr. Garner relocated from the Midwest to El Paso to join University Vision Centre, he quickly proved to be a valued member of his community. He’s glad to be able to provide exceptional, personalized eye care to the wonderful neighbors he gets to meet through his work.

Gabriel Luna is a trusted optometrist at University Vision Centre in El Paso, TX. He earned his Bachelor’s in biology from St. Mary’s University before his Doctor of Optometry at Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry. He graduated from optometry school with clinical honors and was awarded Student Clinician of the Quarter. He worked in eye care prior to optometry school, which helps him understand and account for all his patients’ vision needs.
