Educational Background 

Dr. Martha Barreto began her academic journey at California State University, Northridge, and later pursued her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Arizona College of Optometry at Midwestern University. She has received specialized training in Myopia Control, Tempsure, and IPL treatments, equipping her to offer a wide range of advanced eye care services. 

Clinical Expertise 

As a medical optometrist, Dr. Barreto specializes in diagnosing and managing conditions such as glaucoma, dry eyes, diabetes-related eye issues, hypertension, and ocular traumas. She is particularly skilled at handling complex cases, always dedicated to uncovering the root cause of her patients’ symptoms and providing effective treatment solutions. 

Experience 

With four years of experience as an optometrist and 15 years in the optometric field, Dr. Barreto has a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience. One of her most memorable cases involved fitting a young girl with her first pair of contact lenses, significantly boosting the child’s confidence and preventing ridicule from wearing bifocals. Another notable case involved a middle-aged patient experiencing unexplained visual disturbances. Through a thorough dilated eye exam, Dr. Barreto discovered swelling indicative of elevated cerebrospinal fluid leaking into the patient’s eyes. Her timely diagnosis and referral to the ER led to a critical intervention, bringing relief and gratitude from a patient who had sought answers from numerous other healthcare providers without success. Such experiences underscore Dr. Barreto’s commitment to thoroughness and patient care. 

Approach to Patient Care 

Dr. Barreto believes in fostering a warm, understanding environment where patients feel heard and valued. She emphasizes the importance of developing long-term relationships with her patients, ensuring they feel comfortable discussing their concerns. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Barreto is proud to serve the Spanish-speaking community, making ocular health care accessible and comprehensible for all her patients. 

Philosophy and Values 

Committed to lifelong learning, Dr. Barreto regularly attends continuing education courses and optometric conferences to stay abreast of the latest advancements in eye care. She is passionate about patient education, using clear and relatable analogies to explain complex medical conditions and the importance of routine eye exams. 

Personal Background 

Dr. Barreto’s passion for optometry was sparked during her undergraduate studies when she worked as an optical technician. She quickly realized the significant impact of vision care on people’s lives and decided to pursue a career in this field. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Barreto enjoys exploring the outdoors, traveling, and cooking.  

Future Goals 

Looking ahead, Dr. Barreto is exploring the possibility of owning a practice that combines MedSpa services with comprehensive eye care. She is dedicated to raising awareness about ocular health and inspiring young women from minority backgrounds to pursue their aspirations and succeed in their chosen fields. 

Dr. Kelsey Harraghy is an Arizona native, born and raised in Phoenix, and brings a lifelong connection to eye care into her work at NuVision Centers. Her passion for optometry began early, after receiving her first pair of glasses at just three years old from her father, a now-retired optometrist.

Education & Clinical Training

Dr. Harraghy earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry in Glendale, graduating in 2020. Her training included clinical rotations at multiple ocular disease-focused practices throughout Arizona, where she gained experience treating patients of all ages.

Focus on Ocular Disease & Preventive Care

Dr. Harraghy has a strong clinical interest in the management of ocular diseases, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, and dry eye syndrome. She is also a strong advocate for preventative eye care, helping patients stay ahead of changes in their vision.

A Commitment to Patient Education

A key part of Dr. Harraghy’s approach is patient education. She believes that when patients understand their eye health, they are better equipped to make informed decisions about their care. She takes the time to explain conditions clearly and ensure each patient feels confident in their treatment plan.
