Manatee Eye Care

Dr. Rego brings decades of clinical experience to Manatee Eye Care, with a background that spans education, ocular disease management, and low vision care. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Davis, and completed his Doctor of Optometry degree and residency at Nova Southeastern University, where he specialized in low vision and geriatric care.

After residency, Dr. Rego stayed on as a professor at Nova Southeastern, teaching and supervising optometry students in the classroom and clinic. His focus on primary care, ocular disease, and low vision laid the foundation for a career centered around complex eye health needs. In the years since, he has worked extensively in ophthalmology clinics, providing patients with medically grounded care and a deep understanding of long-term vision health.

When he’s not in the office, Dr. Rego enjoys scuba diving, snorkeling, and spending time outdoors. He’s proud to serve the communities of Lakewood Ranch, Venice, and Osprey with personalized care rooted in experience.

Dr. Abigail Zielke provides comprehensive vision care with a special focus on pediatric patients, specialty contact lenses, and ocular disease management. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Saginaw Valley State University and completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Michigan College of Optometry.

During her training, Dr. Zielke developed a strong interest in helping patients of all ages—from fitting contact lenses for unique visual needs to managing chronic conditions and supporting children's vision as they grow. She brings a thoughtful, patient-first approach to every exam and values building long-term relationships with the families she serves.

Originally from Michigan, Dr. Zielke enjoys Florida life with her family and spends her free time outdoors, reading, or keeping up with Pilates.
