Behavioral Optometry
Some aspects of Vision, like the ability to see 20/20, are present almost at birth. Other visual behaviors, such as tracking, eye teaming, visual motor integration and visualization, develop through interaction with the environment as children grow. Behavioral Optometrists, also known as Developmental or Neuro-Rehabilitation Optometrists, understand that delays in the development of visual behaviors can occur and that these delays can have a profound impact on school, work, and play. These delays can even persist into adulthood. They can affect us in ways that we don't notice because we have learned to live with them. We aren't even aware that they exist. However these vision problems can limit how long or well we read, work on the computer, think and problem solve. They can even cause motion sickness and affect the weekend warrior's athletic success. Behavioral Optometrists help solve these vision problems through a wholistic approach that may include lifestyle modification, eyeglasses, contact lenses, or vision therapy. When you are examined by a behavioral optometrist, your whole visual system will be examined. You will find out if your visual skills are fully developed, or if they are holding you back from achieving all that you can. Your Behavioral Optometrist will evaluate the health of your eyes, help you to see clearly, and can help you maximize all of your visual skills.
