Vision Therapy

Some visual conditions cannot be treated adequately with just glasses, contact lenses and/or patching, and are best resolved through a program of Vision Therapy.

Poor Visual Skills Affect Learning, Reading, Social Skills

When a child has poor visual skills, they often exhibit symptoms such as skips and loss of place, letter and word reversals, short attention span, below expected reading and school performance and a general avoidance of the work. If the skills are not improved, performance, frustration, and poor self-esteem increases. This often results in not only poor school performance, but also emotional and behavioral problems. As skills are improved through therapy, the child's enjoyment and performance in school often also improve. A child has only one education, and visual therapy can be a major future in whether a child lives a happy and productive life.

Our vision therapy program generally consists of weekly in-office, sixty-minute, individual, one-on-one therapy sessions supplemented with home therapy. We deal with learning-related vision problems and sports vision. We offer weekday as well as Saturday therapy sessions.

What is Vision Therapy?

Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised, treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies. Vision Therapy sessions include procedures designed to enhance the brain's ability to control:

  • eye alignment,
  • eye teaming,
  • eye focusing abilities,
  • eye movements, and/or
  • visual processing.
Visual-motor skills and endurance are developed through the use of specialized computer and optical devices, including therapeutic lenses, prisms, and filters. During the final stages of therapy, the patient's newly acquired visual skills are reinforced and made automatic through repetition and by integration with motor and cognitive skills.
